MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Job description
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical coordination, design supervision, and engineering support of building service systems and utility infrastructure. This includes HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning), water supply and sewage (internal and external), firefighting systems, thermal networks, boiler rooms, and heat/cold supply systems, including heat pumps. Your primary focus will be project engineering and design compliance. Support to construction and commissioning teams will be provided as needed.
- Review and approve design documentation for HVAC, water supply, sewage, and thermal systems in accordance with Mongolian and international standards
- Prepare and validate Terms of Reference (ToR), Scope of Work (SoW), Standards, Procedures, Manuals, Technical Specifications and design commentaries and for mechanical and utility systems
- Perform hydraulic and thermal calculations for internal and external utility networks, including firefighting systems and process-related pipelines
- Develop layouts, diagrams, and schematics for HVAC, boiler systems, heat exchangers, heat pumps, and other thermal installations
- Coordinate design interfaces with other engineering disciplines (electrical, civil, automation) to ensure system compatibility and completeness
- Resolve design inconsistencies and optimize solutions during the detailed design stage for cost-effectiveness and constructability
- Participate in the preparation and evaluation of technical sections in tender documents
- Collaborate with design companies, vendors, and contractors to ensure timely and accurate delivery of engineering deliverables
- Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning phases including issue resolution and field design modifications
- Participate in FAT/SAT for key electrical equipment and support commissioning activities
- Participate in acceptance testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities for mechanical systems including documents preparation
- Contribute to the preparation of technical justifications and support documentation for expert reviews or regulatory approval
- Mentor junior mechanical engineers and support team knowledge development (if applicable)
Job requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC or related fields
- Minimum 3 years of experience in design and coordination of HVAC, Firefighting plumbing, and utility systems
- Solid knowledge of thermal systems, water supply, drainage, and heating/cooling systems (including boiler rooms and heat pumps), firefighting
- Proficiency in performing hydraulic and thermal calculations; experience with software like EPANET, Zulu, Mike+ or similar is a plus
- Familiarity with Mongolian and international codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, VSN)
- Experience in industrial sectors (e.g., oil & gas, mining, uranium) is an advantage
- Strong coordination and communication skills; ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary project teams
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, project-driven environment
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office; knowledge of Revit or BIM tools is a plus
- Proficiency in both Mongolian and English is required (verbal and written)
